Rules for Youth Band Competition: The competition is open to anyone who is eighteen years old or younger and is not performing as a billed or paid entertainer at the festival. Bands entering the competition must be comprised of two or more persons with at least one person eighteen years old or younger. Band members must play traditional bluegrass acoustic instruments. Electronic instruments and amplification are not allowed. The single exception is that an electric bass guitar may be used. Judges reserve the right to score only competitors whose style of playing and selection of material is in keeping with the flavor of the Bluegrass festival. In an effort to Judge the contest objectively and equally, the following criteria will be considered by the judges and assigned a point value in each area. 40 points ARRANGEMENT - Competitors version of the tune selected. Difficulty and originality will be considered. 40 points EXECUTION - Singing, picking, timing and dynamics will be considered. 10 points SHOWMANSHIP - Stage presence and entertainment values will be considered. 10 points OVERALL IMPRESSION - Competitors may also pre-register for the competition by returning the entry form to P.O. Box 1585, Guthrie, OK 73044. Registration forms may be submitted up to the start of the competition. The competition will begin 10:00 am Saturday inside the "Children's Tent". The competition chairman will determine the order of appearance. Competitors will play a maximum of three Bluegrass style tunes. At least two of the songs must be vocals. After the last band's performance, the judges scores will be tallied and the winning band will be selected. Final scores will not be divulged.
