Childrens Tent & School Visits What do you get when you bring 1,200 third and fourth graders to the largest Bluegrass festival in Oklahoma? The answer is three days of fun and learning. This is what the Childrens Tent at the OIBF is all about. Each year at the festival, children from school districts across central Oklahoma as well as children from all over the United States come to the Childrens Tent to learn about traditional music and pioneer toys and crafts.
![]() photos by don shorock This year, we are excited to announce that the Childrens Tent will host featured performers from the festivals main stage. We invite all children and festival goers, no matter how young or old, to stop by and enjoy the music and activities. In addition, the Childrens Tent stage will also host the Youth Band Competition as well as feature past Youth Band Competition winners. Along with enjoying great music, visitors to the Childrens Tent will experience first hand the fun of making their own pioneer toys and crafts. Did we mention that the Childrens Tent is free and that the children get to keep all of the crafts and toys that they make? Last year, corncob dolls and sock ball ghosts were all the rage. It was amazing to walk through the festival grounds and camp grounds and see all of the pioneer toys and crafts being worn, played with and displayed with pride by their proud creators. What will be the favorite toys and crafts this year? Only time will tell. If there is one thing that makes the Childrens Tent special it is the volunteers who staff the tent. Without these volunteer, many of whom work all three days of the festival, it would be impossible to keep the Childrens Tent running smoothly. We are blessed to have volunteers who are passionate about the Childrens Tent and who return to volunteer year after year. Many of our volunteers use their vacation time to come work with the kids. If you are interested in volunteering at the Childrens Tent, simply sign up as a festival volunteer and asked to be assigned to the Childrens Tent. Volunteers are always welcome ![]() photo by don shorock If you are interested in bringing your class (or any organized group) to visit the Children's Tent this year, please contact Sheri Mueller at (405) 282-4012. There is no charge for bringing your group to the Children's Tent. Time slots are currently available on both Thursday and Friday of the festival, but these slots will fill up quickly. |
